Bulgaria is to receive another 23 Desiro-type diesel trains of Siemenes by the end of the year, Bulgarian State Railways (BSR) officials announced. So far two of the diesel trains have been launched into exploitation, delivering passengers from Sofia to the Black Sea coast cities of Varna and Burgas. The trains with their low fuel expenses will most probably serve to raise the incomes of the "losing" routes, Nasko Tsanev, CEO of BSR explained. In December 2004, the leading engineering enterprise won a public tender for delivering the machines. The new trains are lavishly equipped with electronic information system to be used by passengers, air-conditioning and wheel-chair facilities for disabled people. The diesel trains, speeding up to 120 km/h, correspond to all environmentally friendly standards, being equipped also with differentiated garbage removal bins. Bulgaria became the 12th client purchasing the Desiro trains, according to Friedrich Smaxwil, Vice President of the Transportation Systems Group of Siemens.
