Bulgarian Energy Watchdog Forecasts July Price Increase The price of electric power is going up in Bulgaria beginning July 1 over the expenses of the three power utilities for the purchase of energy from renewable sources.
The announcement was made Tuesday by the Chair of the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation, (DKEVR), Angel Semerdzhiev, saying just for the above said reason the price will go up by 1.5%.
The power utilities, however, are yet to submit their price requests and with an inflation of more than 4% - 5%, prices would go up even higher.
DKEVR have also not received the investment plan of the Sofia heating utility "Toplofikatsiya," despite the end-of-January deadline. Semerdzhiev says the Commission is giving the utility another 2-3 weeks before making a decision, adding the investments will, in any case, lead to a slight increase of heating prices, but it would not be problematic.
"We are talking about the replacement of a few pipes, so no substantial hikes here. The easiest thing is to fine them for the delay, but I am not in favor of sanctions," the DKEVR Head explained.
