The Bulgarian Parliament will discuss country's new Penal Code at its regular meeting on Thursday. The Penal Code, though, has met magistrates' disapproval even before its official presentation. Chief Prosecutor Nikola Filchev said Wednesday it is an imitation of a reform, when commenting on the fact that it has been presented to the magistrates just a few hours before being approved by the Cabinet. Bulgaria's Deputy Justice Minister Margarit Ganev, who was present at Wednesday's meeting of the magistrates pointed out the EU warning that it might activate the safeguard clause if Bulgaria fails to approve its new Penal Code. The code is on the list of legislation Bulgaria has to adopt by November, when the comprehensive monitoring report on the progress made in the candidate countries will be issued.
