Rioters Throw Petrol Bombs at Gay Parade in Serbia Protesters have thrown petrol bombs and stones at the participants in the ongoing Gay Parade in Belgrade, Serbia, the BBC reports.
Police used tear gas against the protesters, who tried to break through the armed security, protecting the participants in the event.
On Saturday, some 10,000 people took part in an anti-gay rally in Belgrade.
Carrying Serbian and church flags, and banners with slogans "in defense of the family", the opponents of the planned gay parade, including nationalist extremists but also many families with young kids, marched with demands for the cancellation of what they see as a "disgraceful" event.
On Sunday, police stated that several officers have been injured in the clashes and anumber of people have been arrested.
Despite the rioters' shouts "Death to homosexuals," the march is continuing.
According to the BBC, the first ever Gay Parade in Serbia in 2001 was broken up in violent clashes, provoked by far-right extremists.
