Sofia has opened the first of its kind First International Bulgarian Media Meeting with the participation of 55 media from more than 24 countries.
Running in the context of European perspectives and responsibilities, the forum aims to bring for the first time all Bulgarian-language media operating around the world, Maxim Minchev, Director-General of Bulgarian News Agency, organizer of the event, told Sofia News Agency.
In an address to the forum participants, Bulgarian Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg confirmed the governmental policy of equality of media and non-interference into their work as well as respect for the freedom of speech.
He appraised the activities of Bulgarian media operating abroad as "noble and useful", as it helps Bulgarian emigrants keep well informed and connected with the homeland.
Simeon Saxe-Coburg called on to media in Bulgaria and abroad to urge people go to the polling stations on June 25 and cast their vote for the future of Bulgaria in the next four years.
The First International Bulgarian Media Meeting to run by Wednesday will be one in a series of events in Bulgaria marking the Day of Slav Letters and Culture, May 24. In 2005, when the Bulgarian language became an official language in the European Union, the nation is celebrating the 1150th anniversary of the Slav alphabet. |
