Washington and Sofia have confirmed their commitment that the multinational coalition in Iraq will continue to support the Iraqi people as they put the institutions in place for democracy to fully emerge in the post-war country. To discuss the successful election and the way forward in Iraq the US President George W. Bush made a phone call to Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg on February 4, the US mission in Sofia informed in a press release. President Bush has talked also with Romanian Prime Minister Traian Basescu, US State Department spokesman Scott McClellan said at a press conference on board of the presidential plane. He added that both phone calls - to Bulgaria and Romania - were made to discuss the post-electoral situation in Iraq. US President has expressed his appreciation for the strong leadership of Bulgarian Prime Minister and the country's commitment to advancing the democratic process in Iraq. Bulgaria has been a staunch ally to the US-led coalition deploying some 430 troops in Diwaniya, south of Baghdad. President Bush has also remarked that he looks forward to seeing the premier Simeon Saxe-Coburg at the NATO Summit in Brussels on February 22, the US mission also announced. However, the premier's attendance at the summit is quite questionable, as he might not survive the non-confidence vote scheduled for next week.
